Hello there!

I’m Susie, the creative mind behind Cables & Crochet.

In this blog, I share my ideas for knitting, crochet, and occasionally other crafts. Since picking up the hobby, I’ve designed and made various garments and wearables from yarn, and I’m here to share them with you wonderful souls.

My Story

I’m a 25-year-old knitter and crocheter, living in the beautiful city of Vienna. Most evenings, you’ll find me snuggled up on the couch with a nice cup of tea, some relaxing music and my current WIP. If I’m not working on any yarn crafts, I’m either focused on another creative project such as cosplay or painting; or being either outside in nature or trying to bring nature inside by (mostly) keeping alive close to a hundred houseplants.

Growing up in Bavaria, I learned to knit from my grandma; I can’t remember a winter night where she wasn’t currently working up another pair of knitted socks. Naturally, I was curious and set out to learn the craft as well – and about halfway into a wonky looking scarf in garter stitch, I was frustrated enough to not touch the hobby anymore for the following 15 years.

Finding Joy in Creativity

Susi-Blog-S1-12.jpg

About a year ago, I found myself burnt out from years of spending all my time and energy on studying while also working a full-time job. During several months of sick leave, I slowly started rediscovering my love for creating things with my own hands. This quickly led to me spending every waking moment either knitting/crocheting or looking for inspiration (and lots of yarn) for any future projects.

Through the unwavering support of the amazing people in my life; I have found the confidence to share what I do with all of you; and to go part-time in my office job and focus my energy on building up this blog. I hope that through Cables & Crochet, I’ll be able to enable you to enjoy learning more about yarn crafts; after all, this process is about having fun and finding joy in being creative.

As I keep creating more knitted and crocheted garments, and looking for ideas online, I quickly started to notice that there never seems to be the perfect pattern. After unsuccessfully hunting for ‘the one’, the pattern that would check all my boxes, I decided to start creating my own ones instead.

This is why my goal with this blog is to share recipes rather than exact patterns. If you’re anything like me, with a cooking recipe you always end up giving it your personal touch as well, be it to fit your taste or to substitute for ingredients you have available – so why not do the same with knitting and crochet? You’re always free to follow the exact stitch counts I used, but through sharing insights behind the design, I hope to give you the opportunity to customise anything I share. We’re all unique, so hopefully this will allow you to create the perfect items to match your body and your personal style.

I hope you’ll stick around to discover more ideas and get inspired!
